Behind The Scenes At Concept Los Angeles

Fall Back, Spring Ahead

This past weekend at Concept Los Angeles, a combination of installations and runway shows were held at Quixote Studios. Some of the newest trends were revealed as we look ahead to Spring/Summer 2014. Pastels, lilac in particular, were a major hit both on the runway as well as in the crowd. Overall, this soft color palette was utilized in new and fresh ways such as a makeup trends on the runway at the Yoze show, or the ultra feminine Mod theme at the ODA installation.

ODA Installation: Stage 1

One noticeable theme at the installation was a “Mod” resurgence. This took a fresh approach to the trend with black and white geometric block symmetry. The makeup was true to its nature with overly done up eyes paired with neutral lips and cheeks. While the makeup was intense, the hair took an even more over the top approach with a futuristic variation of the teased honeycomb updo.

Smoke machines created an airy feeling, filling the room with clouds, which caused the photographers to complain slightly. All the models stood motionless, except when instructed to slightly readjust their positioning. They remained bleak, holding all the tension in their mouths as they acted like plastic mannequins on display for the audience to gawk at. Their second look contained pretty pinks and lilac pastels, which had an ultra feminine nature about it. Frilly socks were layered underneath sandal heels, creating a doll-like quality that was somewhat childish yet playful. Although the clothing was fun, the models remained strictly business.

Yoze Runway Show: Stage 2

The duo designer pair, Yoze, debuted their American womenswear brand at their first runway show, bringing on the drama and glitter. The models strutted their stuff down the brightly light runway in the collection’s gold accented pieces, mixing bold printed tuxedo suits with canary yellow and teal pieces. This was offset with the creamy Lilac lipstick swiped across each of the models neatly pursed pouts. After the show, the designers described the inspiration behind the line, saying,

“We wanted to do something that is different that has an originality to it.”
